Sacramento Regional

The University of California at Davis draws students from every state and 75 countries. With an undergraduate enrollment of 23,000, and an annual budget of $1.4Billion it is now one of largest and most important campuses in the UC System. (See the profile pdf for more information. It continues to be the major sponsor of the Regional and campus leaders see activities such as the FIRST Robotics Competition as critical for the future of science and technology in northern California.

Sacramento is the state capital of California and is located approximately 100 miles north-east of San Francisco, on Interstate 80. The Sacramento area covers 200 square miles, including six counties, several municipalities and has a population of almost two million. The number of high school students in this population is close to 100,000.

Cities near Sacramento include: Sacramento, Citrus Heights, Fair Oaks, Folsom, Roseville, Loomis, Natomas, Elk Grove, Florin, Orangevale, Carmichael, Rosemont, Rancho Cordova, Bear River, Granite Bay, North Highlands, El Dorado, Rocklin, Auburn and surrounding communities include Placerville, Galt, Rio Linda, Lodi, Davis, Woodland, Winters, Dixon, Knights Landing, Yuba City, Vacaville and Live Oak. The FIRST Sacramento Region includes the area from Bakersfield to the Oregon border and from the San Francisco bay area to the Nevada border.

The FIRST UCDavis-Sacramento Regional Competition is young by FIRST standards and has held successful events since 2003 with approximately 32 teams competing each year. The teams competing have included 7 Sacramento-area high schools (St Francis, Elk Grove, Granite Bay, Jesuit, Jim Elliot, Sacramento Waldorf and Davis) with others from the San Francisco Bay Area (Bellarmine, Woodside, Los Altos, Campbell, Castlemont, De Anza, Vanden, Richmond, Harker, Milpitas and Chaminade), other parts of California (Arroyo Grande, Madera, Fresno and Lodi) as well as others from other States (NV, OR, HI, MI, NJ, OH, TX and FL) and Canada.
